What is Helixic Books?
Helixic Books is the imprint that I publish my books under. Since independent authors are publishing under their own name, having an imprint in this manner is one of the many ways to make the resulting books fit in properly with traditionally published ones.
The logo’s inspiration is drawn from one of the proposed methods in the field of Nuclear Semiotics, that is, how to warn people tens of thousands of years into the future where hazardous waste may be buried in ways that don’t rely on language, as it may not survive in a translatable form.
This particular idea was proposed by a sci-fi author Stanisław Lem, who imagined the warning being encoded into the DNA of a particular flower that would only grow around sources of hazardous radiation. The idea was that this message could be decoded by a future civilisation, however one technologically advanced enough to do so would be beyond needing the warning.
The idea of Nuclear Semiotics is deeply entwined in my work, and the way it manifests, especially in The First Hytharo Series, is very deeply related to the idea of the DNA flower, hence the twin, helix stems. You can read more about it across my blog, or dive straight into the books themselves.
Either way, I’d be fascinated to hear your thoughts on the matter.
